The growing number of music schools and string students in the Evergreen and Silver Creek areas is creating a high demand for professional luthier services. 


PMA Head of the String Department and violin maker, Arthur Mikhailov, carries out the following services:

  • changing the hair on the bow,
  • correctly installing the strings on the instrument,
  • adjusting the position of the main elements on string instruments,
  • restoring the varnish,
  • fine tuning the instrument to improve the sound,
  • straightening the fingerboard,
  • changing the height of the strings,
  • balancing the bow,
  • installing various types of winding.

Arthur Mikhailov mastered his skills working with string instruments in Russia. Upon relocating to America, he joined the studio of the famous Italian violin and bow maker – Frank Passa. At the same time he worked at renowned music stores, “Weinkrantz Music Supply” and “Cremona Violins”, which served the leading orchestra musicians of San Francisco Symphony, Opera, and Ballet. Dr. Mikhailov spent more than a decade servicing musicians of San Francisco and the Bay Area. Among Dr. Mikhailov’s clients are such famous artists as Gidon Kremer, Sarah Chang, Alexander Baranchik, Roy Malan, Vicky Wang, Imant Grant, Kronos Quartet, St. Petersburg Quartet, and many others.


Dr. Mikhailov fulfils individual orders for new violins and violas, and provides violin rental of various sizes for students.
